Surgery: Reflection

Rotation was my Surgery rotation located at NYPQ. In this rotation I had to do 3 weeks of general surgery, 1 week of urology, and 1 week of neurosurgery. Additionally, I had one 24 hour shift during this rotation. On a typical day, my shift started at 6am and ended at 6pm, however I would pre-round on a patient prior to 6am so that I can present the patient during rounds. Surgery Site Visit

The patient that I presented during my site visit was a urosepsis patient. I wanted to focus on a patient with sepsis, since this is such an important topic to become familiar with, since it is possible to see sepsis in different areas of medicine. This patient in particular was a patient who developed a high white count, fevers, and hypotension within 30 days of his surgery, making him highly suspicious for SEPSIS. Pediatrics: Rotation Reflection

My 6th rotation was Pediatrics located at Dr. Nicasio Arana’s office in Jamaica, Queens. This was a unique experience because the majority of patients that came to see this provider were Spanish- speaking. Therefore, not only was I trying to accustom myself to a new rotation and a new demographic of patients, but I was also trying to do so in a different language—it wasn’t easy!
